We are looking forward to lots of barbeques and time with family and friends this summer. The Fourth of July is always a holiday we look forward to. My daughter’s birthday is a few days later so it sort of kicks off her birthday week and all the fun festivities.
In not true kid fashion, my daughter doesn’t like chocolate. She is also a vegetarian and doesn’t even like cheese very much. While I remain unclear how I birthed such a child, I have had no choice but to figure out what types of things she does enjoy eating.
This dessert is one of her favorites.
Besides the fact that both my kids love it, it’s become my go-to for other reasons. It is super easy to make requiring no baking or cooking but yet is still a yummy dessert. It looks cute for any patriotic holiday. I also love that it’s a grab-and-go dessert so people can just take it at their leisure, not hunting down a knife and plates or any of that.
If you are looking for a no-bake, easy and delicious item to bring to a 4th of July get-together; look no further.
You’ll need:
- Strawberries or other red fruit
- Blueberries or other blue fruit
- Butter loaf cake or short bread cake (basically I get whatever loaf type cake is in the bakery section)
- Whipped Cream or Cool Whip
- Individual cups (I prefer clear short cups but you could use anything!)
- Optional- red, white and blue sprinkles for the top
Easy instructions:
- Cut the bread into bite sized squares
- Cut up the fruit (if using blueberries, keep those whole) into bite sized pieces
- Layer the cups- bread, whipped cream, fruit, bread, whipped cream, fruit. The amount and size of layers will depend on the size of your cup
- I like to top mine with a couple pieces of each fruit and sprinkles so the patriotic colors stand out
Enjoy!
