I have a daughter with gorgeous curls, but keeping them looking good can be a challenge. Weekday mornings can be particularly trying – desperately detangling and styling while under a time crunch without accidentally sending the whole morning sideways.
There are tons of tutorials online with “easy” hairstyles for kids but even those are too hard for me. Sure, they look simple enough but once you’re trying to replicate them with wild tendrils between your fingers it turns out to be nearly impossible.
So here are some styles that any – and I mean any – mom can do. Mom of curly-haired kiddos, don’t try to completely tame their hair. Embrace the wild, because it really looks best when it’s left natural, a bit messy, and a little unkempt.

Four Easy Hairstyles for Kids with Curly Hair
1. Two Messy Buns: Messy buns are the best on curly-haired kiddos because they turn into these adorable little poofballs. Simply make two messy buns at the nape of their neck or up higher on the back of their head.
2. Show Off Those Curls: Leave their hair down and let the curls air-dry. See this tutorial to find the best way to keep their hair from getting frizzy.
3. Long Braid: Stop fighting your child’s part and just braid their hair down their back. Super cute and they get to show off their length (which they can’t usually do with their curls).
4. Partial French Braids: Don’t worry, mom, I can’t French braid well either. But the best thing about your little one’s curly hair is that as it dries it will hide any imperfections. Just do a loose French braid along each side of their head, and they’ll look cute while the hair gets kept out of their eyes.
Don’t be afraid of trying new things, even if styling hair “isn’t your thing.” The curls pose a challenge for sure – but they’re also very forgiving. If I can do it, you can, too. You’ve got this, mom!
