Every once in a while, we here at AllMomDoes write about five of our favorite things. Sometimes there’s a theme (beach, summer, holiday, etc.) and sometimes they are just random ideas. Whichever they are, it’s always fun to see what items other people covet in their lives.
Some favorites are forever (will your Bible ever NOT be your favorite thing?) and some things will fall off your list to be replaced with other favorites. That’s just part of the fun.
Here are five of my favorite things right now.
- Pull-top cans. I put this first because this is the best invention EVER! Whenever I try to open a can, it ends up looking like an angry bear mauled it with a dull hatchet! I remember my mom grabbing cans out of my hands when I was a child because I just couldn’t operate the opener. She’d whisk the cans open with no problem and I was left feeling like a clumsy mess. It never occurred to either of us that it was because I was left-handed! I still can’t do it. I have to have my husband open cans for me. The first time I accidentally bought a pull-top can, I danced with joy in the kitchen. Finally, something this southpaw can open. Hallelujah!
- Buttoned kitchen towels. Does anyone else have a husband and kids who carry off the kitchen towels? A spill on the floor? Goodbye, kitchen towel. A small bleeding cut? Bye-bye, kitchen towel. Everything else? See you never, kitchen towel! I have been known to chase down the thieving culprit and rip the towel out of their hands. Then, my daughter (who has this same problem at her house) bought me my first button-on towel. I giggled at all the growls I heard from my family as they tried to pull it off the stove handle. Love these!
- Steamer vegetables. Veggies that cook in their own pouch without dirtying a pan? Sign me up! These are awesome. They cook perfectly and can be poured right onto individual plates. What an easy way to add vegetables to a meal.
- Cozy bras. I’m a bra burner. Well, I’m an uncomfortable bra burner. Seriously, I am done wearing bras that cut into my skin, or that don’t breathe and poke me all day long. I’m just not going to subject myself to that pain anymore and I am done with polyester and underwires. I finally tried one of those soft cotton padded bras you see advertised online and I immediately ordered more in every color they had. They’re so comfortable that I forget I have a bra on and yet they give this full-figured gal the support I need.
- Video chats. It took me a while to figure out how to make video calls, but now that I have, I’m hooked. My grandkids love to call and use all the crazy filters on their faces. The sound of their laughter is music to my ears. Even though two of my kids live far away, I get to see lost teeth, new toys, dance moves, etc. I’ve seen my niece’s kitchen remodel in California, and I get to “travel” with my globe-trotting son. I chatted with him in Japan last night.
There you have it, my five favorite things right now. Life is fickle and so am I, so don’t be surprised if I come back with more favorites!
What items or inventions do you feel you can’t live without? We’d love to hear what they are in the comments below.
