This might just be my most challenging Christmas shopping year yet. My son is 12 and at that age where he has no idea what he wants but he also wants to open things on Christmas. My daughter is only nine and is bursting at the seams with ideas of what she wants. My challenge is to keep it somewhat even and not reward my daughter just because she is easier to shop for.
My son already knows he will likely have fewer things to open considering most items I come up with will likely be on the more expensive side. I had to think hard and get creative coming up with other ideas that aren’t all going to break the bank. If you have a tween and are struggling with reasonably priced ideas for Christmas, my hope is these ideas will help and inspire you!
LED lights for their room ($14-$25 range) My son loves being left alone in his room. I am certain this will remain true into the teen years. These lights are fun and can change colors with the click of the remote control they come with.
Phone Tripod/Selfie Stick ($10-$25 range) My son recently got a phone and loves taking videos with it. Even if your kid doesn’t yet have a phone I am willing to bet they ask to borrow yours constantly.
Oil Diffuser/Humidifier ($15) Color changing options and comes with a remote.
Wordle Puzzle Book ($10) My son and my husband both love Wordle (a word of the day via an app called Wordle). I think they will both love this book giving them more opportunity to guess words and compete with each other. This could make a great stocking stuffer.
Mini Fridge ($25+ range) Another item I know my son will love for his room. A couple of waters and Sprites loaded in will make him feel like he has his own apartment when he has friends over I am sure.
1-minute Gratitude Journal ($7) This could make a great stocking stuffer.
Ladder Toss ($30) Indoor or outdoor, this game is super fun if you have not heard of it. I am hoping it gives my son and his friends something more to do besides video games at our house.
Polarized Sunglasses ($18 plus $6 off coupon!) Three pack of 4.6 star polarized sunglasses. Variety of color choices for boys and girls.
Calligraphy for Beginners Set ($7+) Might be more girl centric but not necessarily. They have all sorts of sets to learn or improve your calligraphy skills. I hope Santa puts this one in my stocking. This could make a great stocking stuffer.
Life Skills for Tweens ($12) It claims to hold essential life skills for tweens. This could make a great stocking stuffer.
Body Pillow ($15+) There is a definite theme here of ideas for their rooms. Put a couple of these against the wall on the floor or the bed and you have an instant hang out/relaxation space.
This inflatable air sofa is pretty cute too ($39)
Cookbooks ($5+) There is a huge variety if your tween is into cooking. Many include great basic skills like how to properly measure dry ingredients.
Giant Enter Button ($15) This is so random but several of my son’s friends have it and I guess it actually works. A giant enter button that comes with a USB to connect to your computer and it can work as the enter key.
Bluetooth Speaker ($19-$50 range) Certain versions of the Echo Dot (Alexa) are actually not too expensive or just a basic blue tooth speaker for their room so they can play music.
Gift Cards in Small Amounts Think places like Starbucks, Taco Bell, even the grocery store or anywhere that $5-10 could actually buy them a little something.
Wireless Ear Buds ($40+) These are not cheap but this JBL version is much more affordable that the Air Pods many tweens and teens are after. My son got these JBL ones for his 12th birthday and they are fantastic! I told him if he doesn’t lose them that I would consider Air Pods in a couple of years.
*Pro-Tip- I actually purchased on Amazon Prime Day so I think they only cost me $30.
Crocs ($30+) I don’t know when it happened but Cros have somehow made a huge fashion comeback. Even those little accessories for them are apparently popular with tweens/teens these days.
Emoji Farting Pen ($13) This seems like a lot for a pen but I am still considering it because I know that even though my son is almost a teenager, there is something always funny about fart noises. It could even be a good gift for husbands. This could make a great (higher priced) stocking stuffer.
Kids Against Maturity ($24) I bought this game last year and it quickly became our favorite. Age appropriate toilet humor that gets us all laughing.
We’d love to hear your ideas for gifts for tweens or any other ages too!
