What fills you up? What makes you happy beyond words? I could name a million things that I love about my life. I feel like God has blessed me so much; I feel like I’m bursting like diamonds, you know how that song goes.
I look around at my family, friends, home and lift my eyes up to God and am humbled by God’s great goodness toward me.
Sometimes though, I can get caught up in the gifts rather than the giver…because the truth is
God Himself is our Joy.
When we had our younger 3 children we lived in a Mobile Home in a small Mobile Home Park. Life was good and our 3 children shared one bedroom. Believe it or not, they did this until our son was 12. We had pretty much resigned ourselves to the fact that we would probably live there until our kids graduated! LOL But we were happy and content.
Then one day God blessed us above what we could think or imagine. He gave us a big beautiful home. It’s a long story how we got it, so that’s for another time. It is one of those gifts that you think will never happen, but your heart quietly longs for when you are all sharing a bathroom. HA!
Our kids now each have their own rooms, we have plenty of bathrooms and the space is amazing. There is this one perfect t spot over our pantry doors to put a scripture a quote or something fun and as I looked at that spot and started thinking of something oh so clever, God whispered deep into my heart and I knew the exact thing I would put there:
This is not our home… Heaven is our home
I’ve come to believe in my life that although God gives amazing gifts to His children, it is not the gifts that are so wonderful but God himself the giver.
Our home, In all of its splendor and all of its beauty, with love of family and friends is wonderful, comforting and a gift, but they are just that…a gift.
God is always the same, never changing.
Through trials and discouragement, blessings and gifts let us remember the Giver…
For God Himself is our Joy.
