“Come little leaves,” said the Wind one day, “Come to the meadows with me and play. Put on your dresses of red and gold; for summer is past and the days grow cold.” -George Cooper
With the swirling leaves turning brilliant shades of fall colors, it’s the perfect time to throw together an easy autumn craft! I love this one because it can help you and your kids slow down for a minute and take in the beautiful details of each leaf. You can even take the opportunity to teach them which types of trees each leaf came from! Little ones love leaf-hunting and always find such treasures in the things of nature that we sometimes overlook. Older kids can also get creative with this craft, especially when it comes time to design the bugs!
You’ll need:
- An assortment of fall leaves
- White construction paper(or colored if you prefer!)
- Glue stick
- Sharpie
To get started:
Flatten the leaves under a book for a few hours if they are particularly wrinkled, they’re easier to glue that way!
Arrange the leaves on your paper however you like. You could even draw branches for the bugs to crawl on-the possibilities are endless!
Gently glue the back of each leaf and set in place.
Turn your leaves into fall bugs with the sharpie! Eyes, antennae, wings, legs, etc.
Allow to dry for an hour or so and voila, cute little leaf bugs to help you celebrate the changing seasons! I hope these little guys brighten up even the most blustery fall day and create some special memories for you and your family.
