How well do you know your children? As Moms I think it’s our job to know the heart of our child, just as God knows us. We should, to the best of our ability, know what makes them tick.
Are you familiar with the story in the Bible about Job? If not here is a quick overview. (I mean really quick! This is very paraphrased!)
Job is a righteous man and blessed by God. Satan of course mocks God and says “he would not be a righteous man nor praise you if you didn’t bless him so much. As a matter of fact Job would curse you if he had trouble.”
God disagreed and allowed Job to be tested…really tested.
All of Jobs children were killed in a terrible accident and then Job is struck by a horrible sickness, then his friends think he must have hidden sin or something for this to happen…umm they weren’t too helpful. Oh and his wife…well she thinks he should curse God and die! Yikes!
In the midst of this whole ordeal Job says a very amazing thing:
Job 23:10 – “But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.”
In the midst of such desperate tribulation Job could trust God, because God “knows the way I take” Job knew in his heart of hearts that God would never give him more than he could handle.
It’s finals week at our house, so a lot of studying is going on. Sports however never stop for anything so last night my daughter had a Basketball game. I had offered to help her study…but by the time I got home, I was sooo tired. High School sports get over late!
I had decided that I would help her no matter what, so I waited patiently as she took her 10:00 pm shower…umm that’s ½ past my bedtime already! I really wanted to go to bed but I had promised her that I would help her and wait for her.
She dilly dallies around and finally comes down at 10:30…Yaaawn! She’s 16, I could go to bed, but in my heart of hearts ~ I know the way she takes.
I ask her how I can help…she says in a very dazed and sleepy way “oh I just have 2 assignments to get done, then I’m going to bed.” Well does she need my help or not? I hesitate and think “I’m going to bed, I’m just too tired and I have to get up so early”
I stop and look at her doing her homework and think I know her; I know how she takes ~ “Do you want me to stay down here with you until you are done?” She looks up with a smile and exhaustion “yes.”
So I wait until she says “I’m done!”
Yes, I know my daughter and even though I may have wished she would have said “no you can go on to bed” I knew she would want me to stay up.
I know the way she takes.
As I write I think of the wonderful articles that Kristina and Angela wrote this week, about their tender hearts toward their children as they train them up in the way they should go.
Even though we have ups and downs with our kids, as Moms we still know the way they take. Let’s trust ourselves. God has designed them for us; chosen us to be their mom!
How do you feel knowing God knows you so well? I bet your children feel the same about you!
