I promised that I would bring a focus to fitness in 2015. The last couple of weeks, we’ve worked the lower body, upper body, and we’ve also gotten our heart rate quickly up with things like tuck jumps! Get your comfy pants on because this time we focus on stretching!
Stretching makes us more successful in any fitness regimen. It actually increases our muscle flexibility and lengthens our muscles! When we stretch, we can shorten our recovery time (AKA not wake up as sore the next day after an intense workout.) Stretching isn’t only important before/after a workout. For those like me that have a desk job, stretching is also key to ensuring we don’t have work-related injuries from repetitive motions like typing.
Here is my challenge for you TODAY! At some point during your day STOP and stretch something. It could mean standing up from your desk to roll your wrists around in circles or get a quick back stretch. It could mean buckling your kids into their seats, and reaching your arms above your head or touching your knees or toes before you sit back in the car for that trip over to a play date or soccer practice. How do you feel after you allow your body to stretch? It should feel good!
If you are tracking your fitness days, go ahead and give yourself a gold star for days where you stretch for 10 minutes or more!
If you have followed the last few posts, you are well on your way to being a fitter version of you! I am so excited to be on this journey with you! I’d love to hear more about what YOU want when it comes to health and fitness. Spoiler Alert, next week we will focus on food! Easy ways to start eating healthier!
