As a mom, we’re sure you are feeling ALL THE FEELINGS when it comes to what is currently happening around us. From the anxiety over the protection of your family, to the stress of managing everyone in the house. It can often feel like we are trapped so much in our own feelings that we forget our kids are going through their own set of feelings. As you work toward the transition from school to home, here are some ways you can help them navigate those feelings.

Keep Open Communication
Make sure your child understands they can share their feelings with you. They may see you feeling sad or anxious. Ensure your child that all the feelings they have are completely okay and normal. Kids are likely feeling frustrated and sad so many things have been cancelled, uncertain that they are transitioning from school to home, sad that they aren’t going to be with their friends or anxious and worried about the virus making them sick. Talk through each emotion with them. Even if you don’t have all the answers to their questions make sure they know all questions are welcome.
Build in Bible Time
We aren’t guaranteed the things of this World, but we are guaranteed what is written on the pages of the Bible. Remind your child of the things that are true and that we can stand on. Make sure you are taking time as a family to talk about and affirm your faith daily. Here are some relevant lessons to get you started.
Drink Enough Water
It is essential to make sure everyone in your home is getting enough water. Lack of water can lead to feeling increased anxiety or depression. Everyone in the house should have a designated bottle of water and drink enough each day!
Get Outside
Make sure you get outside and build in physical activity ever single day. It will help relieve feelings of stress and relieve your feelings of being overwhelmed. Make it a priority to walk daily, play in the yard, go to the park, or build in another way to get physical activity.
Seek Guidance
If things are especially hard for your child, or they are acting in a way that concerns you, seek out the opinion of your school counselor. Even during this time they want to provide your family with the support you need.
Yes, things are uncertain and strange, but God has not given us a spirit of fear. As we all support one another during this time we are trusting in God to bring us to a place even better than where we started. As we hold on to that hope, we want to encourage you to keep at it, give yourself grace, and do the best you can while leaving the rest to God.
