Their mission was simple. “We just wanted the officers to know they were loved.” That’s why Sarah and her kids decided to deliver cookies and notes of encouragement to their local police department. The notes said things like, “You matter,” “You are a hero,” “You are loved.”
When she shared this story with me a Martin Luther quote kept going through my head, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
Sarah says that she decided to do this after seeing all the horrible things being written about police officers around her city. She says she “didn’t want her children to grow up thinking every single cop is bad. They are working day and night to help us and protect us. We wanted to say thank you. There is so much hatred in the world today, and we wanted these officers to know they are loved.”
Today’s world is complicated, and emotions are running high. I think there may be one thing that we can agree on. We all want to feel loved. Thank you to Sarah for sharing her story of how she decided to spread love in her community. Where are you going to spread love today?
