Have you ever wondered whether it’s wise to have your child participate in sports? Sure, regular activity is good for their physical health but have you ever second-guessed your decision to allow them to participate when you hear all the dire warnings about over-scheduled kids?
This post is sponsored by Seattle Christian School.
The Women’s Sports Foundation went about investigating that exact question with their Teen Sport in America study. Here’s what they found:
- Sports participation is directly related to teens having a more positive attitude toward school work, improved academic performance and higher grades.
- Sports participation is directly related to higher aspirations for earning a college degree and post-college education specialization.
- In academic achievement and attainment, the likelihood of benefitting from sports participation increased with the number of sports in which youth participated.
- Teens who participate in two or more sports are more likely to engage in healthy behaviors that, in other research, correlates to better academic performance including: daily exercise, adequate sleep, and eating breakfast every morning.
- Teens who participate in sports have better psychological health.
It’s clear that sports can be a healthy addition to your child’s life and may even help enhance their academic performance.
So if you’re considering a private school education for your student-athlete, obviously the athletic program matters. At Seattle Christian School, they not only prioritize academic excellence, but they’ve built a program of athletic excellence as well.
Competing in 13 varsity sports for boys and girls in the Nisqually League, SCS teams have won 15 State titles, numerous District titles and have won 14 Academic Titles in the past ten years. Four of their athletes have gone on to play Division 1 athletics.
The Middle School athletic program has three seasons for boys and four seasons for girls. The program allows budding athletes to discover their gifts as well as prepares athletes for High School competition.
The Warriors have a long and rich history of athletic excellence. Athletes hone their athletic skill, learn how to lead and follow, and grow in emotional and spiritual maturity and perseverance.
