School has begun and Fall is almost in the air. My 4:45am workout attire already has to include a zip up because the mornings are shifting to a bit cooler weather. I am one that loves summer weather. In the Pacific Northwest, it never gets too overwhelming hot but I sincerely wish it would. I lived in Texas for a summer and truly didn’t mind the intense heat those summer months brought.
Despite loving the heat, I also love the things that come with the next season up on the docket. Fall brings pretty leaves for family photos, soccer season for my kids (which yes, I truly enjoy) and, yes you knew it was coming, Pumpkin Spice Lattes! Well, correction, Pumpkin Spice everything!
I first learned of the return of Pumpkin Spice when I was in the Starbucks drive-thru. I was mid-way through giving the barista my order when I saw the magical words Pumpkin Spice listed on the menu. I stopped dead in my tracks. I believe my exact words were, “whoa wait a minute. You have Pumpkin Spice already?!” I recall years ago the agony I would go through waiting until nearly Halloween before Starbucks offered this delicious drink. I immediately changed my order so I could experience my first one of the season.
I’ll admit, it felt a bit off. Maybe it’s because it happened to be a warm day in August and this drink really seems to be better paired with a sweater and boots versus a cap sleeved top with capris. I felt like I had forced myself to make the order but then almost wished I had waited until the weather cooled off a little more. I felt so torn. I love the taste of almost anything Pumpkin Spice. I just never realized I loved it later in the season.
To be sure, I have ordered a few since that day. I had to double check I wasn’t just off that first day. Strictly research based. The verdict is that I remained torn over to love it or wish for cooler weather.
Now that the weather is actually starting to turn, it is officially Pumpkin Spice time. However, I know some are still believers that it is too early.
What is your belief? Should we wait until Fall is officially here before we start diving into Fall/Winter drinks? Or do you wish Pumpkin Spice would stick around year round?
