Our house had been owned by the bank and when we received the keys, my “honey-do project list” quickly added up to be about a mile long. Right up towards the top, next to patching the holes in the wall, was something a little less necessary, but just as important to me. I wanted raised garden beds. To put it lightly, I had garden fever and I had it bad. As my husband painted our walls and my girlfriends helped me shampoo the carpet, all I really wanted to do was go dig in the dirt.
Those raised beds came and gardening quickly became one of my favorite ways to have “me time.” After the kids were in bed, I’d slip out and pull weeds while watching the sun set. Sometimes the kids helped me plant seeds and together we marveled at how God created something so small to become something so amazing.
Then one night, everything changed. We decided to put our house up for sale. With a for sale sign in my front yard, I planted my garden anyway. While I put those seeds into the dirt, I felt God speak to me about being faithful in the small. It’s one thing to enjoy gardening for yourself, but can you enjoy it when you’re planting it for another family? In that moment, I decided all I want is to be faithful in the small things. I’ll plant seeds for someone else. I’ll water them, I’ll watch them grow and then we’ll hand over the keys.
In 2 weeks, we move out of our house and the new family moves in. I won’t have a garden this summer but thankfully, I’ll have Klesick Farms delivering organic produce right to my door and their produce is just about as good as growing your own.
In fact, it might even be better than growing your own. As fun and rewarding as it is to garden, I’ll admit that it does take a fair amount of effort – and it’s tough to consistently get enough good produce to fully feed your family. Klesick’s ‘Box of Good’ consistently delivers plenty of high-quality produce to keep more than enough fruits and veggies on our plates!
So today, instead of picking fresh veggies with the kids, we opened our Klesick Box and my 6 year old declared “I have decided I DO like salad!” Then the kids all pulled stools up next to me and we made a giant spinach smoothie, before we could even fully unpack our box.
Maybe you’re in a season of not being able to garden as much as you’d like, maybe you need to supplement what you’re growing yourself, or maybe you just want to try incorporating more fresh fruits and vegetables into your family’s diet. No matter what your story is, we all know how important it is to feed our families well.
I absolutely love my “box of good” from Klesick Farms. For me, it’s definitely softening the blow of not having a big garden this year.
