Do you struggle to make Easter a season instead of just a day? It’s such a significant celebration it deserves far more attention and reflection than a one-hour church service. So how can you help your family reflect on the meaning of Easter in the days leading up to Resurrection Sunday?
Here are some ideas:
Read through Holy Week. Each day during the week before Easter, read passages and tell the story about what Jesus and his disciples were doing that day to make the events of Holy Week come alive. If you want to go ever deeper, you can text EASTER to 89419 to get a Holy Week text journey that has a companion podcast as well. The story will culminate on Easter Sunday when you attend a resurrection celebration at church!
Attend a Good Friday service. Easter Sunday celebrations are amazing, but there is nothing more impactful than a Good Friday service. The weight of Jesus’ death and the somber tone make the sacrifice of the crucifixion real. After all, there is no resurrection without death. If you’ve never attended a Good Friday service, make this the year you go and see what a difference it makes in your Easter season. Eastridge Church is offering a Good Friday service at 7pm at its Issaquah and West Seattle Locations. Don’t miss this powerful presentation of the final days and hours of Jesus’ life, where we’ll walk away with the understanding that you were worth it all. The powerful message about the meaning of the Cross will leave you inspired, thankful and hopeful.
Bake or craft with a purpose. Do you have young kids? Make Resurrection Rolls or bake Easter Story Cookies to showcase the miraculously empty tomb! Here is also a great way to invite some neighbor kids over for a crafting day that focuses on Palm Sunday!
Choose your Easter Egg hunt with intention. Who says you can’t have fun?!? Make memories with your kids by taking them to an Easter egg hunt or to visit the Easter bunny. Eastridge Church is combining the fun of kid-friendly Easter activities with the Truth of the season, so it’s a great choice to reinforce that Easter has a deeper meaning. Their massive Easter Egg Hunts will be held on April 8 at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Issaquah and at 10 a.m. at West Seattle’s Lincoln Park (south meadow). And it’s totally free! Your kids will love our fun and HUGE Easter Egg Hunts! 15k eggs per hunt, age-appropriate groups, tons of candy, FREE Easter Bunny pictures, hayrides and more. It’s seriously the most fun you’ll have this Easter. Bring the whole family for lots of fun. (Additional needs hunt will take place during the 1pm egg hunt.)
Invite someone to church. What’s better than the resurrection? Sharing it with someone you love! Invite your extended family to join you for Easter services before your big holiday dinner gathering, or ask your neighbor if they’d like to go with you and then head to brunch. Make this the year the people in your life start to understand why following Jesus is so life-changing! Do you need some help knowing what to say or how to ask? Eastridge Church has pre-written texts and e-mails to make it even easier!
