You guys. Overall, I’m pretty disciplined with my finances.
I’m frugal. I don’t waste money. I find ways to save wherever I can.
But also?
I’m a complete sucker for those email marketing messages in my in-box.
Most of the time I can ignore them and hit “delete” without giving it a second thought. But there are three brands in particular that rope me in.
EVERY. TIME.
Whether it’s “check out this free gift with purchase” or “free shipping on orders of $50!” I click the link.
Just to take a look, of course. Not to buy anything. But without fail, I quickly find something that I absolutely need.
You guys. This is ridiculous. And you might think I should just unsubscribe, but I can’t bring myself to do it.
Because their deals are just so good I’m convinced that if I don’t get the emails anymore I’ll miss out on the deal of the century.
Seriously, what is this hypnotic mojo they send to my in-box, and how can I bottle it to use on my five-year-old?
But anyway, I finally had this realization. The money I’d miss out on saving from this so-called “deal of the century” would be way less than the money I’d save if I just quit buying stuff I don’t really need.
Well then.
So this morning I opted out of all three brands. I’m not gonna lie, it was a little painful. But also a little relieving. And while I probably need to work on my self-discipline a little bit, opting out of emails is easier – and, for the time being, more effective.
