- Pizza Party – We love to have spontaneous pizza parties and what could be easier than ordering online and having people bring food to your door! - Jump Rope – Another great way to get your kids outside is to buy everyone a jump rope. And, why not get some extras for the neighbor kids? Here are some games to get them started.
- Make a Movie – Let the kids use your phone to create their own movies. My grandson loves to build block towers and then crash his cars into them. We film it in slow motion and he watches the “movies” over and over again. Or, older kids could gather costumes and redo classic stories. My brother and his friends used to film disaster movies. There was a lot of ketchup involved!
- Have a sundae or yogurt party – Invite friends over and supply the toppings for a bowl of ice cream or yogurt. Take pictures of each child’s creation.
- Glow Stick Fun – Hit the dollar store and buy some glow sticks. Let the kids stay up past their bedtime and play tag in the dark. Get the neighbors involved!
- Stargazing – There are lots of fun ideas on this sight to teach your kids about the stars and constellations.
- Craft Day – The beauty of summer is that you can send the kids outside to do messy crafts! Cover a picnic table with a tablecloth from the dollar store, supply the kids with all the things you really don’t want in your house like: glue, glitter, play-doh, etc. and let them create whatever they want outside in the yard!
- Home decorator – Let your kids rearrange their rooms. Just moving the furniture around makes them feel like they have a new room and also gives them some ownership of their space. Or, you can let them pick out new bedding and paint a piece of furniture (outside!).
I hope this gives you some simple ideas for summer fun. Most of them take very little effort on your part (hooray!). And, please share your ideas for making summer easier and more fun for the whole family!
