I had a real experience with God at Starbucks.
I simply stopped for a grande iced espresso with chocolate almond milk. While placing my order with the cashier, I noticed the barista listening intently. She got started right away on my drink, wasted zero time. It was ready in less than 60 seconds.
The straw was going into my drink as this thought dropped into my heart: GOD IS NOT A BARISTA.
What?
I turned the words over in my mind.
It was almost like downloading a message.
How often have I gone to God like He was a barista?
I step up to the “counter,” place a prayer with all my specifics, and expect Him to answer ASAP. Like STAT PLEASE! GOD, DID YOU GET THAT?!
Now, I’m 100% sure that the Lord wants you and I to go to Him and ask for things. He’s our Father and He loves us enough to count the hairs on our heads! What I’m beginning to understand is that trust and prayer go hand in hand.
Prayer is like taking a deep breath and diving into the beautiful mystery of His will. It’s believing that when I come up for air, I’ll find His ideas are infinitely better than mine… that His timing is spot on, and that if it’s no or wait… those too are answers filtered through the purest love.
God doesn’t wear a green apron. But my name and yours is engraved on the palms of His hands, so we are good.
See Isaiah 49:16.
