A few weeks ago I shared about a fun way I’ve found to pray for my kids. You can read about that here. As a follow up, I thought I’d share with you exactly what I pray for them.
First off, I don’t believe there is a right or wrong way to pray for our child(ren). You can pray out loud or to yourself. You can pray for their general wellbeing or specific needs. You can pray for their friends or future spouses. You can pray the exact same thing every day or never pray the same prayer twice. Again, there’s really not a wrong way to do it. Just do it.
Something that’s been fairly new to my prayer life is praying scripture over people, specifically my children. It’s been neat to find a verse in the Bible that is filled with hope and promise and say, “Yes! That’s it! THAT’S what I want for my child.” Since I’m a visual person, I’ve found that I really love to write those scriptures out. And because I want my children to see and know that they are being prayed for, I like to insert their names into the verse.
As I’m writing out these little notecards, I’m praying the scripture that I’m writing. Once it’s complete I have something tangible to hold or touch as I pray for them. I recognize that this does nothing to make my prayers more valuable to God, but it does help me focus on what I want to say.
