What if a small up-front time investment could provide huge benefits in terms of your sanity, your health, and your budget? The good news is that prepping your meals in advance will help you:
- save time on weekdays
- save money by preventing your food from going to waste
- reduce the number of dishes you have to wash on weeknights
- improve your health by having fresh, home-cooked meals ready to go to reduce the lure of take-out or packaged convenience foods
Kristina and her son did a Facebook Live broadcast on how they meal prep in their home:
Some quick tips:
- Carve out an undisturbed chunk of time for maximum efficiency
- Prep dinners, lunches, and snacks on the weekend for minimum effort during the week
- Serve produce-heavy meals early in the week to prevent them from wilting or going bad in the fridge
- If you prep meat but don’t plan to eat it within a day or two, put it in the freezer and then move it to the fridge 1-2 days before you plan to serve it to defrost
- Do as much of the work as you can up until the final step of cooking, leaving simple assembly/cooking as your only weeknight task
