On Tuesday we did a Facebook Live broadcast on praying for your children, but we had a few technical difficulties which made the video difficult to replay. So instead of reposting the broadcast here for you to watch, we’re giving you the recap!
Why should we pray for our children?
- It sets a good example.
- Children are bombarded with so many influences in our culture, it’s important to pray and ask God to watch over them.
- Because we’re not in control. As moms we read and hear about what we should do to keep our kids healthy, safe, and how to raise them ‘right,’ but all this knowledge gives us the illusion that we can control their well-being and outcome. Prayer reminds us that we don’t have control and we need to plead for our children at the feet of the Father.
What should we pray for our children?
- Anything!
- Pray for their safety. Pray for their friendships. Pray for their teachers. Pray for their future spouses. Pray that they accept Jesus.
- Pray for both immediate needs and long-term provision!
How can busy moms find time to pray for their children?
- Emily finds the only time she can carve out is before her children wake in the morning. Even though she’s a night owl, she tries to find time at the beginning of her day.
- Kristina tries to remember that prayer doesn’t have to be a specific, formal, set-aside time. While it’s wonderful when that happens, authentic prayer can happen anytime and just be a passing word to the Lord in the middle of the day.
How can we teach our children to pray?
- Pray in front of them – for them, and for others.
- Model prayer. Listen as they repeat what you say until they begin to experiment and try to create their own prayers.
How can we incorporate scripture in our prayers for our children?
- Choose a ‘life verse’ for your children to pray regularly over your children.
- Review our blog, ‘Verses to Pray Over Our Children‘ to find a topic and verse that feels applicable to your situation in the moment.
