It’s time.
After two years of unprecedented challenges and sacrifices, restrictions are lifting and it’s time to help our city rise again. Spring break is coming up, and if you don’t have big travel plans, plan a staycation to rediscover the treasures in our own backyard. Because, let’s be real, you’ve stayed home enough lately. Don’t let spring break slip by without getting out and making some family memories!
Three years ago my family had the opportunity to stay at the Westin Seattle and we had an amazing time downtown. It was our “home base” for a 24-hour staycation and we experienced some of the fantastic things that Seattle has to offer. But we haven’t really been back since, thanks (mostly) to COVID.
Fast forward to today, and I’ve been downtown more in the past five months than I have in the past five years. The light rail opened in the North end and getting downtown has NEVER been easier or less stressful. As I re-venture into the city after this hiatus, I’m quickly realizing how much there is to experience with my kids. And I ALSO realized how much that little 24-hour Westin staycation thirty-six months ago impacted them.
I’ve gone into Seattle with my kids separately on several occasions recently, and BOTH of them have excitedly pointed out the Westin as we’ve walked around. Then they reminisce about the things we did during our brief stay and I’m blown away by how vivid their memories are of that one little getaway. It inspires me to do things like that more often!
{And, since it bears mentioning because of persistent news stories, I’ve gone with them recently at all times of day and neither I nor my kids have felt unsafe. Don’t let fear keep you away.}
This year, don’t let spring break slip by without making some memories. Make them right here in our backyard. It’s time to rediscover all that Seattle has to offer and use our dollars to boost the businesses that have somehow held on in a city that’s groaned under the weight of the last two years. Let’s help Seattle rise again!
