When I began the task of packing up our entire house, I was sure to first get all the materials I would need in order to make it as seamless as possible.
Bubble Wrap/Foam Pouches– Being able to simply insert things like dishes, mugs and other fragile items makes the process go much quicker and with less frustration
Boxes– Ok so this is a pretty obvious item. I recommend you get a variety of sizes. Things like dishes are heavy and you don’t want to load up a giant box full of them. Tip- try to save money by going to your neighborhood social media pages to see if you can find someone who just moved and wants to get rid of their boxes. Win win!
Packing Tape– Another obvious yet important item. Be sure to have a few laying around so you can easily tape up items into bubble wrap and secure boxes once they are packed. I ran out of tape when I was almost finished packing and it was super frustrating. I recommend getting a few just to be safe!
Perforated Bubble Wrap– Make sure it’s perforated as this makes it so much easier versus trying to use scissors to cut it off. Confession, I didn’t realize mine was perforated until I had already packed quite a bit. It was the greatest discovery when I saw those brilliant little perforations.
Sharpies– Be sure to get more than one. One reason is because it’s bound to run out of ink with all the labeling you are doing. But also, you will want to have one in each room to ensure it’s easy to label them and not have to go on a Sharpie hunt each time you load up a box.
Cellophane Wrap-When it came to things like jewelry boxes or plastic bins without a lid, I used cellophane to wrap around the item to keep everything in place versus taking out items to individually pack. Huge time saver.
Colored Duct Tape– A friend gave me this tip and it was a pro move. In addition to using the Sharpie to label boxes, assign each family member a color and use duct tape to tape the top and around their boxes. When you are wondering where your kids basketball shorts are while in the midst of unpacking, it’s much easier to see “yellow is his box, look in those!” I also assigned a color for the kitchen so I could easily see which boxes were kitchen items.
