Working moms, you’re lying if you say you have never been sitting in a meeting only to look down at your pants or shirt and have that thought of, “how the heck did that <insert spit up/dirt/skittle/you get the picture> get there?” Motherhood isn’t exactly glamorous but here are five items to help you look and feel put together any day of the week.
Trench Coat Particularly for these fall/winter months, this is an awesome addition to your wardrobe to ensure you look put together. You could have a dirty shirt underneath but nobody is the wiser. I opted for one with a hood so I can go straight from the office to the rainy soccer field.
High Boots The options are endless and I have more than just one pair (black, brown and gray are each a necessity for my wardrobe!) but a high boot can easily pull together any look flawlessly. Make sure you spray them with weather guard so you can go from the office to whatever kid related event awaits you.
Trendy flat shoe A cute pair of flats is great with jeans on a Friday while still looking stylish. They also help you stay comfortable when you go from work to chasing kids around.
Re-wearable pants Having a few pairs of classic slack style pants will ensure you are looking sharp because they go with whatever top you manage to yank out of your closet in the morning. Nobody will even notice you just wore the same pair yesterday.
Blazer I have a handful of blazers because they are so easy to throw over virtually anything and automatically look stylish. I recommend having one or two in black, one in gray and then one you wear less often that is a more bold color like red. Like the trench coat, they are an easy cover up to what is really going on with the shirt underneath. But nobody will ever know.
Statement Necklace Even on your most boring clothing days, a statement necklace can give it a wow factor and pull it all together. I recommend having at least two in your wardrobe.
Office/kid friendly bag I don’t have time to be constantly changing my purse. Invest in a purse that can carry your laptop during a workday just as easily as it can tote around snacks, extra socks, homework…you get the idea. This one pictured is reversible which is extra genius in my opinion.
My biggest tip is that I often get really lucky with the clearance section when looking for work clothes. Items like blazers and boots can be spendy. I am a big believer in not being afraid to dig through those clearance racks! Looking put together really doesn’t have to be a bank breaker.
What are your office wardrobe must-haves? We’d love to hear!
