My granddaughter and I had a fun, low-stress craft day this week. We made silly egg carton masks.
There were lots of laughs as we painted without care on raggedy cut-up egg cartons. The humble “canvases” made it easy to let go of perfectionist tendencies and paint just for the joy of it.
Here’s what we used:
- Cardboard egg cartons
- Scissors and/or craft knife
- Paints, palettes, and brushes
- Yarn or string
- Optional: feathers, beads, etc.
Instructions:
Cut the egg cartons into shapes like this.
Paint crazy colors onto your cardboard masks.
You can make your masks into realistic animal renderings or just go nuts!
Poke holes into the sides of the masks and string yarn through to secure. (You can also poke eye holes if your kids want to play in their masks, we just wanted to take funny pictures).
Glue or wire on beads, flowers, feathers, etc. to make the masks even funnier (depending on attention spans!).
We used a hair dryer to dry our paint quicker.
Gather the family and take silly pictures. This was the fun part as masks were chosen to match each person’s personality.
This turned out to be such a fun craft to do on a very rainy day. Give it a try and share your pictures with us – tag us on Facebook or Instagram @allmomdoes!
