We all want the very best for our children, but it’s impossible to do everything right all the time. Admitting that is freeing – and it’s also encouraging to other moms in the midst of intense seasons. That’s the idea behind our Monday Mom Confessions and we’d love for you to join us – share your own confession in the comments below! Let’s throw off the weight of perfection and get real around here!
My daily routine goes straight from work to kid pick-up to entertaining my two- and five-year-old and getting some quality time in with them. On most days, I eagerly leave work excited to hear about their days, play in the cul-de-sac or get some cuddles watching a show on the couch (Yes, we watch TV after school/daycare sometimes; don’t judge).
But then there are other days.
Days where I just plain don’t feel like being a mom.
And when those days come, I feel guilty! And that is all we need as moms, more mom guilt. But regardless, I have days where all I want is silence in my car on the way home from work.
Days where I dream of coming home and not having a truckload of stuff to unpack, lunch bags to replenish for the next day and two tired and cranky kids begging for snacks and entertainment.
On those days I just want to scream STOP! And honestly, sometimes I do. It seems that kids have a radar for when mom is having one of “those” days. They strive to be their neediest and crankiest just to see if we will be pushed over the edge.
In those moments I always do one thing.
I pray.
Now stay with me here. I am not going to say that I pray and all my stress is lifted and I miraculously snap back into mom mode. That simply isn’t true. But in those moments where I want to just cry or run away or simply just organize my house in peace without little ones standing at my feet, I pray because it helps to remind myself of one thing.
No matter what kind of a terrible day I am having or how much I want to be by myself or do something different than I am able to in that minute, I also know that I wouldn’t trade any of it.
Moms, we are allowed to have days that we admit are hard.
Days where we don’t want to be in the moment and days where we question our purpose. We can have daydreams of a beach in Hawaii that doesn’t include a voice saying “mom, I need a snack”! You are allowed to give yourself grace and let your kids watch a movie on a school night in order to take a breather from full-on mom mode.
While we wouldn’t trade our kids for the world, it’s normal to think about trading them for just one day.
Stay strong mama! We are here with you!
