Last Saturday evening I was sitting on the couch, watching TV and doing a puzzle with the fam. It was yet another evening in a string of similar, uneventful nights when I received a text from a dear friend.
It was a picture of my front door, with a cute little cup perched on the top step. That’s right. My friend brought me a cocktail and dropped it off on my front porch.
It was such a sweet, kind, and unexpected gesture that brought me so much joy. And I thought that if something so small can bring so much happiness right now, I would make it my mission to find ways to spread similar joy to others.
There are a million different options, but I landed on making “chalk your walk” bags. You’ve probably heard about the “Chalk Your Walk” movement – people decorating or writing encouraging messages on their streets and sidewalks to encourage everyone who’s out walking these days. I figured this was a good idea because not only will they be a fun little gift, but they’ll also keep the kids busy for at least 15 minutes.
To put together the gift bags I got a couple of large packages of chalk, tied a few pieces together with ribbon I had on hand, threw in a few pieces of candy (because…chocolate!), and printed out some cards explaining the concept and encouraging others to find their own creative ways to spread hope & happiness.
We plan to drop these on a few friends’ front porches this week, and hopefully the kindness will spread.
