Spring in the Pacific Northwest is a weird time. One minute the sun is shining and the next we have torrential rain. Those of us who have lived here for a while are used to the temperamental weather and we make accommodations for it.
Give yourself a point for everything on this list that you’ve done. The more points you have, the more of a Washingtonian you are!
Springtime in Washington:
- Already lost a pair of sunglasses this season.
- Had to watch the wind and rain knock the blossoms off your flowering trees.
- Left your coat at home because the day started out sunny … and then it rained.
- Barbecued in the rain.
- Kept ordering hot coffee at the coffee shop instead of switching to iced.
- Daydreamed about moving somewhere tropical.
- Kept track of how many gray days there were in a row.
- Refused to put away the winter blankets because you still needed them.
- Counted the slugs in your garden.
- Wore a tank top and flip-flops and then a sweater and long pants on the same day.
- Mowed the lawn in the rain.
- Gardened in the rain.
- Had a picnic in the rain.
- Opened the windows and listened to the rain.
- Waited too long to buy a swimsuit because you just didn’t see the point.
- Watched TV shows set in tropical locales just to see the sun.
- Think umbrellas are for wimps.
- Refused to curl your hair, because … why?
- Invested in waterproof mascara.
- Bought a cute pair of rain boots (everyone should!).
- Got more use from your rain jacket than any other piece of clothing.
- Drove through a big puddle in your car for a cheap thrill.
What was your score? Are you a seasoned Washington resident? What would you add to this list?
“The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit.” Isaiah 55:10-11
