As much as I love welcoming summer, each year around this time I find myself equally excited to think about welcoming fall. For a mom like me who thrives on routine, the open schedule of summer can feel overwhelming after a while. Despite working full time and ensuring my kids are kept entertained with activities like camps or hanging with friends, there is still white space and less reason to be calculated about a certain dinner time or why there is a need for a reasonable bedtime. The summer schedule is more piecemealed together which can be fun for the kids, but a lot of work for moms.
Particularly moms like me who perhaps don’t settle as well into not having a routine.
After a while, the summer makes me ready to get back to eating dinner at 4:30pm on some nights in order to stick to our schedule.
When I saw teasers for the Starbucks fall menu in early August, I had one thought: Bring it on! My kids don’t start school until August 31st yet with almost a month left of summer, I was starting to feel ready for all things pumpkin spice.
Now as we are here and school is beginning, I am not looking back. But I know several people who are clinging on until the last second of summer. The first day of fall is technically September 22. But for me it is August 30 when Starbucks is rumored to roll out their fall menu.
Pumpkin Spice lattes and scones, pumpkin cream cold brew, apple crisp oat milk macchiato; I simply cannot wait. However, I heard the prices are also going up. No surprise given this world we are living in. It means I will have to be selective about how often I treat myself to a fall treat.
What are you most looking forward to about fall? Saturday soccer games and breaking out your rain boots? Cozy sweaters and a good book? Or are you still basking in the glory of long summer nights?
We’d love to hear!
