I always see this image in my head of this beautiful family sitting down on the couch seriously pondering the Word of God, praying together fervently and walking away filled and glorious after their perfect time together.
Enter reality.
Our family sits on the couch to read one sentence from the Bible. Our two kids are suddenly struck with an energy spike and began running in the living room, screaming. My daughter is taking off all her clothes for some unknown reason and my son is just wild-eyed and spinning circles. My husband and I try to contain the chaos and have a meaningful conversation. Frustration ensues. Devotions end.
Enter The Bible is My Best Friend: A Family Devotional by Sheila Walsh
This book is full of colors and pictures. Each week there is a memory verse and a reflection. I’ll say that again EACH WEEK. If you are like me, the thought of every day devotions with chaotic kids just ends up being stressful and then you don’t do anything. Each week seems so much more manageable. I love how it is a theme for the week. The reflection is great for kids. And, then the best part. There are questions provided. I asked my son the questions and he was such a chatter box. It was so fun to be able to hear him express himself. There is also a weekly challenge and a family fun idea. My kids interacted and enjoyed the devotion. It was amazing to see them connect.
I won’t guarantee your children sit still every time, but I think this devotional for your family is a real winner. This is the perfect time of year to start something new. Grab a copy of this book and I guarantee your new year will start off on the right foot.
