There’s no doubt about it, middle school is hard. Most people look back on that period of their growing-up years as the most awkward, confusing, and challenging.
But it doesn’t have to be.
At Seattle Christian Schools, special care is taken to make sure everyone is plugged in and connected. Students entering middle school will never feel alone – a mentorship program gives them a chance to connect with other new students and be a part of a fun group of classmates right away.
And of course there are always sports teams to join…volleyball, cross country, soccer, basketball, baseball, track & field. But not everyone is an athlete – choir, band, and robotics offer additional opportunities to plug in. There’s a place for everyone to find their niche.
Seattle Christian also works hard to help students develop a solid spiritual foundation during those crucial middle school years. Daily Bible classes help cultivate a love of scripture, alongside regular chapels and break-out learning opportunities specifically targeted toward 7th and 8th graders. Weekly discipleship groups help students dive deeper into meaningful spiritual topics.
And then they take this love out into their communities, through service opportunities. What better way to get through those tough middle school years than by broadening horizons, giving back, and making a difference?
Academics also mirror middle schoolers’ stage of development – balancing increasing independence with the need for continued nurturing. Teachers love and understand middle school students, providing challenging curricula, engaging learning activities, and individual attention. They’re encouraged to bring their own devices to school to integrate meaningful technology. And throughout middle school, students learn and practice the study and organizational skills that are critical for continued academic success in high school and beyond.
Everyone has to go through that awkward middle school phase, and at Seattle Christian, we’re committed to making it memorable – for all the right reasons.
