Teacher appreciation week is right around the corner. We’ve compiled ideas for any budget (including no cost!) to be sure you can make the teachers in your life know just how awesome they are.
Buy From Their Wish List: Many schools compile a wish list for teachers. Check with your school’s office or the PTA to see if one exists at your school. You can’t go wrong!
Handwritten Notes: When we asked teachers a couple of years back, this was by far the top request. Knowing this confirms that it really does take a special and wonderful person to become a teacher. Many even said that they keep them to pick them up on the difficult days.
Coffee/Tea: I saw a social media post recently from a teacher who had a young student accidentally knock over her Starbucks cup causing most of it to spill out. Devastation! It made me realize things like this probably happen all too often. Save the day with a gift card or maybe some gourmet beans/teabags.
Class Color Accessories: If your school or classroom has class colors or a mascot, think about getting your teacher socks, earrings, headbands, or other clothes/accessories in that color/theme. They probably get sick of wearing the same yellow scarf each class color day so this gift will be appreciated!
Don’t Forget the Specialists: I recently talked to a mom of a middle schooler who said that since her daughter has six classes, she gives each teacher $5 gift cards. It doesn’t totally break the bank and is sure to remind the teachers how appreciated they are. Same could go for the librarian, music teacher etc.
Teacher Supplies: This idea surprised me but my teacher friends say they love receiving the gift of supplies they can use. Teachers end up spending a lot of their own money on supplies! Pens, sticky notes, cute pencil holders. Multiple sources said they LOVE these pens! Or what about personalized pencils!
Free Printable: This is more appropriate for elementary aged kids but honestly might be kind of cute and unexpected for older kids to give too.
Group Gift: Get a few other moms or dads to go in on a gift together. Your few dollars combined can equal a nicer gift off their wish list.
Soap and Hand Sanitizer: Even out of the pandemic, there are still lots of germs that teachers deal with daily. Pamper them with a nice soap or sanitizer that maybe won’t dry their hands out like some of the ones the school likely provides in bulk.
The Gift of Time: Help them out by taking on time-consuming tasks like labeling, prepping for a craft or event, or ask them specifically what they need help with. Now that COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, you can likely also volunteer in the classroom!
Snack Basket: My kids told me they don’t think their teachers even take a lunch break. Be aware of any allergies or diet restrictions and put together a snack basket for them to have on hand. Lord knows they need to keep their energy up!
Do you have ideas on how to show teachers how much we appreciate them? We’d love to hear!
