It’s amazing how God can put a whole family together with pieces from this world. When my wife and I got married in the 80’s we decided that we wanted three children. Both of us were from large families and 3 had the right ring to it. After our first baby was born my wife became very sick with muscle fibromyalgia and a dislocated pelvis bone. This was a very difficult time for us.
When my wife asked me to consider adoption; I was afraid. I was concerned we would get a ‘bad seed.’
I put a free ad on the internet to sell our SUV on May 1998 and noticed that above “auto” there was a category for adoption. I wrote an ad and said “Texas family wanting to adopt and raise the child to know God in a personal way”. One month later, I got an email from a social worker in Washington State and she said that an Arizona State student is expecting a child and is very particular about the adoptive parents. “They MUST be Christian. She said, “I don’t understand this girl. I’ve been sending religious families to her and she keeps rejecting them. I don’t understand her.” We knew immediately that God was at work and on July 7, 1998 Andrew Nathan Jones was born. We picked him up at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital a couple of days later.
In March 1998 we had also started the process of adopting my cousin’s son Jonathan. My cousin was on drugs and the state of California had guardianship over the child. So our first adoption and this one came along within a year! We had the 3 children we prayed for and all 3 were boys!
Matthew recently graduated Texas State and is in ministry at our church, Jonathan just graduated High School and is in a program to become a licensed electrician and Andrew is a junior in High School and plays Football and Lacrosse. He plans to go to college for RTF. We are blessed with God’s gift of our boys and are reminded everyday how He adopts us into His family through Jesus Christ.
Our 3 children brought to us from 3 very different avenues. We are grateful God put the pieces of our family together so perfectly.
