Today is Christmas! One of my favorite things is hearing what traditions others have on this holiday. We always ate Chinese food on Christmas Eve and I never even thought that it was odd at all. As an adult, I now have the “power” (as I like to call it) to ensure my own children are given memories both traditional and odd ball.
But, let’s also be honest, not all of us have fun memories of Christmas. Instead, it can often mean pain and loneliness. Regardless of where you come from, the story of Christmas is one from which we can all rejoice.
But the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people.” (Luke 2:10)
For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
Think about this for one moment. Our loving God gave us His Son so that we may have eternal life. Even if you are new on the path to knowing God, this right here should tell you that He is worth getting to know! The story of Christmas is, simply put, about God becoming a human. Through this, we see that God understands human pain, sorrow, happiness and joy. As humans, we know that He understands the struggles we face. God wrapped in flesh through Jesus means he can relate to our lives.
Though He was in the form of God, He did not consider being equal with God something to exploit. But He emptied himself by taking the form of a slave and by becoming like human beings. (Philippians 2:6-7)
My hope is that today brings each of you with a feeling of belonging, love, joy and hope. I hope we can all remember the story of Christmas. It is a story for all of us, no matter where we are at today. We are loved by God. Every single one of us. Join me in giving thanks for the life and the love that we have today. With God, everything is possible.
Merry Christmas!
