Does Friday ever arrive and you realize that things like kids sports, work deadlines and overall life chaos has resulted in zero gym time for you? Been there, done that. Before you throw your hands up and give up, read on for weekend workout ideas that will allow you to feel zero guilt that life got in the way during the week.

- Check out classes! I am a huge advocate for group fitness. So much that I am actually a certified fitness instructor for programs through Les Mills fitness Body Attack and CX Worx. Fitting in a challenging group fitness class will be both fun and rewarding.

- Cardio AND Strength. Regardless of how often you are working out or what your goals are, your routine should consist of both cardio and strength. For a weekend only workout, you should get both in on Saturday and Sunday. Mix it up though! The goal is to wake up on Sunday a bit sore from Saturday. Your body won’t respond well to the same workout it just did.

- Make it a family event! I told my husband that I believe my love language is working out as a family. Each Saturday, we bring the kids to the gym child care and take an hour or so to get our burn on. I love kicking off our weekend this way. I feel guilt free because the kids are having a blast and I am doing something that is gaining many benefits for myself!

- It doesn’t have to be a typical workout. With a busy week usually then comes a busy weekend of soccer games and laundry (oh, the joys of parenting). Check out some other ideas to get a burn if you can’t hit the gym.
-
- Be intense. Don’t go so crazy that you vow to never workout again but do make it challenging. If you are giving it two days, you have got to be intentional and serious about what you do.
-
- Tip: Wear your workout clothes with the intention of working out! I am not talking about wearing your yoga pants to the park- for me that’s just standard weekend attire. I don’t regularly workout on Sundays but on particularly busy weeks when the gym has taken a back seat, I will wear my gym clothes to church (clearly we have no dress code) which will almost always ensure I take 30 or so minutes to workout following service. This might be the gym or a few laps around the church. The point is to get it done. I always feel so good afterwards!
You will gain the most benefits from regular cardio and strength sessions. Lower blood pressure, more energy, quality sleep, reduced stress, reduced depression, reduced risk of heart attack and stroke and a long list of others are what regular workouts can provide. Even a 10-minute walk or chasing kids can add huge benefits if done regularly! As busy moms, we have to find what will work for our busy lives. But remember, physical fitness is not only for us but also for our families. We need to stay healthy and also live as strong role models.
How do you find time to fit in fitness? What are some of your go-to workouts? We’d love to hear from you!
