There’s something about a new outfit that makes you feel special. A crisp new shirt that makes you feel sharp, a comfy pair of pants that fit just right, a dress that twirls in just the right way.
I love that something as simple as a new outfit can make me feel like a whole new person. And my kids have turned out the same way. Whether it’s something brand-new or new-to-them, when they get a new clothing item they love they wear it over and over and over because it makes them feel something that even makes them carry themselves differently.
So when South Hill Mall in Puyallup wanted to give away gift cards to The Children’s Place we knew who we should contact to receive the gift of new clothes.
Olive Crest is a ministry that works with families to foster children, and 14 families (and many of their foster children!) arrived to spend this generous gift from South Hill Mall on some new outfits for their kids. One of the moms shared that she had just recently had a boy come to live with her and he arrived with only the clothes on his back. Now he was able to get some things of his own.
Kids may come into foster care with very little of their own clothing, and we all know how quickly kids grow. Many foster families use their own funds to help provide the basic needs for their kids – and many families foster multiple kids. It goes without saying that clothing expenses can add up – fast.
We also invited representatives from Vision House who carefully selected outfits for clients they all knew by name. It was amazing to witness the amount of thoughtfulness these ladies put into choosing outfits that matched not just their residents’ sizes, but also their personalities.
It was fun to watch all the kids and adults shop – at The Children’s Place, there was something for everyone! They carry little-kid sizes, but they also carry sizes up to 16 for both girls and boys!
They also have tons of cute accessories…
…and lots of options for Easter dresses.
{Our girls couldn’t get enough of the huge selection of flip sequin shirts.}
We were so blessed to be a part of this fun event with The Children’s Place at South Hill Mall. We all shopped ’till we dropped, and it was so amazing to know that so many kids were going to experience the power of a brand-new special outfit (or three). Because even though the change on the outside seems small, we know what a large impact a new outfit can have on the inside of a child to make them feel special.
