The mornings are starting to get crisp and cool, the blackberries are ripe for picking, and the pumpkins are starting to turn that brilliant orange! As we welcome fall this month, it’s a tradition in our family to break out our seasonal book collection. It’s a great way to get excited for all that this amazing season has in store! What fall children’s books would you make your list? Collecting and reading the seasonal books that your family loves is such a fun and easy way to make some wonderful memories. Here are some of my family’s fall favorites!
1.Autumn in the Forest
By: Rusty Finch This colorful lift-the-flap book shows us what it’s like to be a chipmunk in autumn. It’s a fun and quick read about how life is changing for animals in the woods!
2. Let it Fall
By: Maryann Cocca-Leffler Cute pictures and fun rhymes fill the pages as we follow along on a family’s fall adventures!
3. Curious George Curious About Fall
By: Cynthia Platt Each page in this book has a fun rhyming poem about different autumn activities. Kids who love Curious George will not be disappointed!
4. Fletcher and the Falling Leaves
By: Julia Rawlinson. This is a lovely story about a little fox and his favorite tree. The magnificent illustrations in this book are sure to get your family excited for the season!
5. The Busy Little Squirrel
By: Nancy Tafuri Little ones who love animals will enjoy meeting all of the different friends that Squirrel encounters as he rushes around preparing for winter. This is an easy read that will delight toddlers and preschoolers!
6. The Scarecrow
By: Beth Ferry. A sweet story that tells of the changing seasons and a lonely scarecrow who meets an unlikely friend. It’s a heartwarming tale with a great message and charming pictures!
7. Franklin’s Thanksgiving
By: Paulette Bourgeois. Kids who love Franklin and his friends will adore this Thanksgiving story about traditions, generosity, and loving your neighbor.
8. ‘Twas the night before Thanksgiving
By: Dav Pilkey A field trip to a turkey farm leads to an unexpected turn of events in this colorful and funny book!
9. The Berenstain Bears and the Prize Pumpkin
By: Stan and Jan Berenstain A classic Berenstain Bears book that combines fun, fall, and life lessons!
10. Autumn: An Alphabet Acrostic
By: Steven Shnur. This book is near and dear to my heart as it was first introduced to me by my grandmother when I was a child. I couldn’t wait to read it at her house every autumn! She has since given my family a copy and I love reading it with my children. The illustrations are bright and beautiful and the poetry will surely get you in a cozy autumn mood!
