Here’s a simple way to make Thanksgiving extra special for kids of all ages!
Ingredients:
- Rice Krispies, Butter and Marshmallows (OR a box of Rice Krispies Treats)
- 1 bag of Chocolate Chips or Chocolate Candy Melts
- Candy Eyes, Red Frosting and Orange M & M’s
- Lollipop Sticks or Skewers
Directions:
Make your favorite Rice Krispies Treats recipe (or unwrap your store-bought treats).
Let the homemade ones set for 10 – 15 minutes.
Remove them from the pan and cut them into rectangles.
Push a lollipop stick into the bottom of each bar.
Cover a baking sheet in parchment or waxed paper.
Melt chocolate chips or candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl (see below).
Holding onto the stick, spread the melted chocolate onto each side of your Rice Krispies Treat. Place on the baking sheet to cool.
Cut orange M&Ms in half.
Using a tiny squeeze of frosting, attach candy eyes and the orange M&M “beak”. Add a wattle with the red frosting. Let set.
Voila! Fun and yummy Turkey Treats.
To melt chocolate chips in the microwave: Place in microwave safe bowl. Cook on high for 30 seconds. Stir. Cook for 20 seconds and stir vigorously. If needed, cook for 15 second intervals, stirring really well after each time. Do not overheat or the chocolate will seize up.
To prevent “bloom”: Bloom is when chocolate sugars or fats rise to the surface and create a light scaly finish. The chocolate is still edible, it just looks a bit strange. Make sure your chocolates cool to room temperature before storing them in the fridge. Too many temperature changes will cause blooming.
