Some years back, a friend and I found out that a co-worker was putting up her first tree and didn’t have any ornaments. We made it our mission to make her the wackiest and weirdest ornaments we could think of! She loved them all, but these glittered animals were her favorites.
These came from our imaginations, but all these years later I am seeing glittered dinosaurs and other animal ornaments in stores! We were truly ahead of our time.
It’s more fun to make them, so here we go.
Glittered Figurine Ornaments
Materials:
- Small dinosaurs or other figures from the dollar store
- Mod-podge
- Paintbrushes
- Glitter
- String
- Waxed paper
Holding your animal by the tail or by one foot, paint it with mod-podge (except for where you are holding). Note: I tried using Elmer’s glue and it didn’t work as well, use a thicker glue, like mod-podge instead.
Once you’ve got it covered, dip the whole thing into glitter (still holding it by the tail) or sprinkle it on over a bowl.
Let the dinosaur or other animal dry on waxed paper.
Paint the tail and any other spots you missed with glue. Dip it one last time and let it dry completely. Hot glue on a string for hanging.
These ornaments will become your children’s favorites. Look around the house and see what else you can glitter and hang on the tree. It’s habit-forming!
