The other day I ran across this great list of verses that we can use to pray over our children. Often I’m in the moment praying about something specific going on, but these prayer verses help us focus and pray for the future of our children as well. I hope it blesses you as it did me. As we are walking this strange year and going through the pandemic, as our kids are at home learning or hybrid or in school, I think praying over them is more important than ever.
Pray for your children to find Christ at an early age
1 Timothy 3:15 – “…but in case I am delayed, I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.”
Pray that they will recognize sin and hate it
Psalm 97:10 – Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
Pray that they will be caught when guilty
Psalm 119:71 – It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.
Pray that they will be protected from evil in all areas of their lives

Pray that they will have strong interpersonal relationships that they treat responsibly

Pray that they will respect authority
Romans 13:1 – Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
Pray that they will desire the right kinds of friends
Proverbs 1:10-11 – My son, if sinful men entice you, do not give in to them. If they say, “Come along with us; let’s lie in wait for innocent blood, let’s ambush some harmless soul;
Pray that they will be kept from the wrong mate and saved for the right one
2 Corinthians 6:14 – Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
Pray for total submission to God
James 4:7 – Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Pray that they will be sold out totally to Jesus
Romans 12:1-2 – Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Pray that they will be protected from the wrong people and the wrong places
Hosea 2:6 – Therefore I will block her path with thornbushes; I will wall her in so that she cannot find her way.
Lord, we lift our children up to you! May you guide us as mothers and help us lead them by example. Amen.
