Good Friday is a heavy day, but it’s easy to overlook. It’s usually a regular work day or school day, and we go about our lives without recognizing its significance. Some people may go to a church service, but Easter Sunday is far more well-attended.
But the truth is there is no resurrection without death. I’ve found the celebration of Resurrection Sunday is so much sweeter when I take time on Friday to reflect on the weight of God’s sacrifice. If you’re looking for ways to honor the day with your family (or maybe help your kids have a better understanding of its significance), here are some videos you can watch together.
Powerful & Reflective:
Simple, Clear Explanation:
This includes mentions of a particular church and invitations to their services, but the overall explanation of Holy Week and Good Friday was very straightforward.
Cartoon for Kids:
This goes through Jesus’s betrayal, trial, crucifixion, and resurrection.
It’s Friday but Sunday’s Coming:
Close your eyes as the these words from Pastor S.M. Lockridge wash over you.
Lego Depiction:
This was pretty amazing, but it’s fairly intense. It might not be appropriate for super-young kids. Watch both videos in succession. If you want to see all the videos in this series, here is the playlist.
Medical Explanation of the Crucifixion:
This video is longer and – caution – it’s pretty graphic. But if you have an older child or are curious about what Jesus endured physically and medically throughout his beating and crucifixion, this gives a great explanation.
