These times are so hard. So painful. So heavy. This past weekend, hundreds of thousands of women marched across the globe for a myriad of reasons falling under the larger umbrella of “women’s rights.”
And millions more of these women fought amongst themselves on social media.
I’ll be honest. Here at allmomdoes, we’ve wrestled with how to respond. We’re all women, so we feel like we need to. It affects us.
But we’re all women, which means we’re not all the same. We’re diverse. We’re complex.
We’re confused. We’re overwhelmed. And we’re wrestling with this whole thing, too. This divisiveness is so hard to watch. And we wanted to address it in a way that unites us rather than further divides us.
So we thought the best way to respond was to listen. And we thought we’d invite you to do the same. You see, the only way we can understand each other is if we listen with open ears (or, in this case, read with open eyes). When we can listen and try to understand, we can feel empathy. And while empathy does not equal agreement, it is the thing that will draw us nearer to each other, while contempt is what will push us away.
So here is a collection of some of the best posts that we’ve seen from around the web on the subject of the women’s march. Maybe some will help you process the events of the weekend. Maybe others will help sway (or validate) your thoughts on the march. And maybe they’ll help you understand, with a little bit of empathy, a perspective that you’ve never understood before.
