It’s awfully hard reading all the strings online about school in the fall. Emotions are so high and opinions are hot. Yesterday my manager was sharing 3 words that God has placed on her heart that really resonated with me as we all look to better communicate with one another during this time full of emotions and opinions.

Let’s just get one thing out of the way first. We all love our children. We all want to do what is best for them. Keep this in your head and heart with each interaction you have with someone.
Grace
None of us have all the answers. This time in life is absolutely unprecedented. What if we came together with a common thread of grace as we discuss the future together? We can agree that the decisions our school leaders must make are hard. They will not make everyone happy. Frankly it’s unlikely they will make no one happy.
Perspective
We each are living in a different perspective at the moment. Jobs have been lost. Not everyone has an easy time working from home. You may be an essential worker. Maybe grandma is helping out with the school at your house. The bottom line is we are all coming at the issues from a different perspective. Mine is not greater than yours. Yours is not greater than mine. They are just different. What if we tried to better understand one another rather than trying to prove ours is the best perspective?
Empathy
We are absolutely going to upset one another. Let’s not do it on purpose. Let’s seek to try to put ourselves in each other’s shoes. Let’s try to come into a conversation without the attitude of just proving a point, but trying to better understand one another.
This is all hard. And it will continue to be hard. But we can make it better by learning and giving each other grace, remembering that each of us come from a different perspective and by allowing ourselves to be empathetic with one other. We are going to get through this, together.
