Okay, I have to admit, I’m pretty much in love with the royal family.
As a Canadian girl whose momma was devoted to Princess Diana and her family, this love for the family and their story was imbued upon me from a very young age. I grew up learning about them, doing many reports on Diana and her work, and weeping heartily at every tribute to her life.
So when I learned that William and Kate were making their way to BC, I was delighted!
William and Kate, along with their two children and of course, their entourage, arrived in BC on Saturday for a whirlwind trip around BC and the Yukon. Stops of theirs include Victoria (where they flew into and will depart from), Vancouver, Bella Bella and the Great Bear Rainforest, Kelowna, Whitehorse (Yukon), and Haida Gwaii.
First of all, how do I get a trip like that arranged for me?
Second, I’m just in awe and excited as I watch these people who I dearly admire and love enjoy some of the best sights in Western Canada!
So as I sit here fidgeting with excitement, I thought I would share with you some of my favourite things about the royal family, and then we can all sit back and watch as they enjoy their trip!
1) In the midst of a nasty political time, they show up kind and classy.
I know that I, as well as many other people, get tired of the negativity and lack of class we see in a lot of the political arenas right now. In the midst of all of that, you can always count on William and Kate to show up well-dressed, well-mannered, and ready to be charitable and articulate. Instead of spending the majority of their Canadian trip being fawned over by the public, they are heading on lots of outdoorsy adventures like canoeing off of Haida Gwaii and exploring the Great Bear Rainforest. They are taking in fun activities like a volleyball game at UBC Okanagan in Kelowna, and participating in many charitable visits, one of which includes visiting an organization that ministers to vulnerable young mothers in the East end of Vancouver.
I just love that, don’t you?
2) They are adorable.
Okay, I know that their work and their charity endeavors are so much more important, but can we not all admit that William and Kate are just the sweetest couple? Of course, we get a very small window into their life, but what we can see truly fits the bill of a royal couple. Watching their love story brought joy to so many people, including myself. I can’t get enough of their pictures and stories, truly enjoying watching their life unfold.
3) Their children are adorable.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte have truly stolen the show when it comes to keeping an eye on the royal family. Watching them grow has brought such delight to so many people, and the sweet moments of seeing them out and about with their parents never ceases to leave the internet buzzing with excitement. These two adorable littles are much more popular than they realize right now, and I hope they grow to model themselves after their parents’ values and integrity!
4) We get to see that they are real people.
Probably the instance of this that struck me most was Kate’s endeavor through extreme morning sickness with both of her children. As a momma who also experienced being very sick while pregnant, it touched my heart to know that Kate also walked this road and it led many people to pray for her health and wellness as she carried her babies. Moms all over the world were encouraged in knowing that if even the Duchess of Cambridge can be struck with those early pregnancy woes, then they are not alone!
What a delightful trip this will be for them. Thank you, William and Kate, for visiting this wonderful area of the world! We are praying you truly enjoy your time and that you have a safe trip home!
