As a Mom, what have you chosen to store up in your heart? Have you chosen to store up resentment, unforgiveness, past hurts or like Mary the mother of Jesus have you chosen to store up God’s Word in your heart?
Luke 2:19 – But Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often.
Whatever we choose to hold onto, whether good or bad, remains with us as long as we are holding onto it. When we store things up in our hearts, they are with us wherever we go. We carry them with us, and no one can take them away from us. That’s great if what we choose to hold onto is the life-giving Word of God.
I like that what Mary stored up in her heart and thought about often was literally the Word of God. Which is light and life. The Word of God is spirit and life. (John 6:63)
When we have stored up God’s word in our hearts by reading it often, memorizing it and meditating on it and thinking about it often, it becomes our vocabulary. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. (Luke 6:45)
When we speak the Word of God that is stored up in our hearts, we speak life and bless ourselves as well as those around us.
The wise woman builds her house [on a foundation of godly precepts, and her household thrives], But the foolish one [who lacks spiritual insight] tears it down with her own hands [by ignoring godly principles]. Proverbs 14:1
Ever wondered how you as a Mom can build up your house instead of tearing it down? One of the major ways is with your words. When we use our words to bless the members of our family, we are building them up. When a Mom speaks the WORD OF God over her children and family both in prayer and in affirmation, they are building up their homes. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words. Proverbs 18:21.
There are so many benefits of storing up the Word of God in our hearts. I’ll share a few.
*Storing up God’s Word in your hearts keeps you from sinning against God.
Psalm 119:11 I have stored up Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You.
*Storing up God’s Word in your heart by meditating on it and being careful to obey it will make you prosperous and successful.
Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. (Joshua 1:8)
*God’s Word guides you along the right path. Like a guiding lamp on a dark path, God’s Word clearly shows you the way to go so you are not lost or confused.
Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119:105)
*God’s Word is alive, and it imparts spiritual life to you when you read it and store it in your heart by meditating on it; thinking about it often.
The Word of God is spirit and life. John 6:63
Whatever we choose to hide in our hearts is what will govern our lives. So check your heart and see what are you holding on to. What are you finding worth storing up in your heart? Is it the truth or a lie? The Word of God is truth and every thing contrary is a lie. Every word of God proves true. (Proverbs 30:5)
